Hi, welcome again to my blog, Beginning Nutrition. Starting this Fall, I will be attending New York University to get my Master's in Nutrition and Dietetics and become a Registered Dietitian!! I am writing this blog as a way to share cool tips and interesting pieces of information I get while in school.
I grew up in the suburbs of New York City, and I spent my collegiate years in the South while attending Duke University. For the last four years I worked at the Population Council doing HIV research with the goal of trying to prevent disease transmission. Although a great experience, I realized that my passion was towards a career that would allow me to more actively help disease prevention. I look forward to working with people and educating them on how to make small changes in their lifestyles to improve their overall health.
I have always had an interest in nutrition. At first, I thought that meant to eat everything that my mom put on my dinner plate- including all the things I didn’t want to eat (like peas, eww!) Then, I learned in school that being nutritious meant eating a lot of colors (obviously, rainbow sprinkles were then super nutritious and could be added to any meal). Quickly, I began to realize that the food that I put inside my body had a major effect on my ability to do things like run up and down a lacrosse field or study for an exam, and I needed to make an effort to eat well on my own. I have learned to try new foods and attempt to cook whenever I can (and I even learned to like peas!)
So, stay tuned as I attempt to share what I learn as I learn; and, together, we can all have a more nutritious lifestyle!
